MISSION STATEMENT 

The primary purpose of the Department of Business and Public Administration is to provide a liberal arts education in the areas of Business and Public Administration that will prepare students for the world of work upon graduation or to continue their studies in graduate or professional school. Students majoring in Business Administration may concentrate in Business Management, or Accounting. Those majoring in Public Administration do not have specific areas of concentration. Students who pursue majors in the Department acquire an in-depth knowledge of their discipline and are also required to successfully complete a series of courses designed to develop and strengthen their analytical, cognitive, speaking and writing skills, as well as an awareness of and commitment to values.

Brief Description of the Program:   

Students who wish to pursue a major in Public Administration will acquire an in-depth knowledge of their discipline. They are also required to complete successfully a series of courses designed to develop and strengthen their analytical, cognitive, speaking and writing skills, as well as their awareness of and commitment to values. The Public Administration Program is designed to prepare students for entry-level administrative positions in government-federal, state, and local levels. In addition, the program prepares students for graduate or professional studies. Most of our graduates find work in their fields or related fields, and a significant number goes on to pursue graduate or professional studies. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in internship programs in federal, state or local governmental organizations. If you aspire to make positive impacts on large numbers of people, Public Administration is a major for you.

NOTE:The September 11 incident has created an enormous expansion in the responsibilities of all levels of government, especially the federal government. Consider, for example, the creation of a cabinet department of Homeland Security and the many agencies it will incorporate. Who else but you will be needed to serve in these agencies? A degree in Public Administration is a sure ticket!  


Advantages/Highlights of Studying in the Department   

The degree programs in the Department are designed to prepare students for the world of work upon graduation or for studies in graduate or professional school. Most of our graduates find work in their fields or related fields, and a significant number goes on to pursue graduate or professional studies. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in internship programs, especially in a business incubator facility located adjacent to the University.
