Dr. Judy
McCain Pounds

Dr. Judy McCain Pounds is the Coordinator of the Elementary Education Program
at Shaw University. She retired from the North Carolina public school system after 30
years of service. During her service in
the public school system, she was an elementary classroom teacher and a
Curriculum Specialist. Dr. Pounds
received a Bachelor’s of Art Degree in Early Childhood Education (K-4) from Saint Augustine’s College, a Master’s Degree in Elementary
Education (K-6) from North Carolina Central University,
and a Doctorate in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill. She is certified as a Curriculum and
Instructional Specialist K-12, and has obtained National Board Certification. Dr. Pounds is an assistant professor and teaches
undergraduate method courses and graduate courses at Shaw University. Her research interests include effective
preparation of teachers and their role in teaching “English as a second
language” students, multicultural education in the classroom, and National
Board Certification.
