Family of Alumna Karen O'Neal Makes
Donation in Her Honor
2, 2014 – Family
members of alumna Karen O’Neal visited the University last month to present a
$5,000 donation in her memory. O’Neal, a 1989 Shaw graduate, passed away on
January 25, 2014 after a courageous battle against lupus.
Following graduation, O’Neal moved to New
York to begin a career in social work. After two years in New York, she
relocated to Washington, D.C., then later to Maryland. She worked at Lorton
Prison in Lorton, VA as a correctional officer until 2000. In 2001, she began
working for the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections. In 2008, she
was promoted to the rank of sergeant, working as the ETS administrator for
