Shaw University Tornado Damage

Shaw University,
the oldest historically black university in the south, suffered major damages as a result of the tornados that swept through Wake County, NC on Saturday April 16, 2011. Shaw University has immediately closed for the semester due to structural damages
One of the tornadoes that tore through Wake County on Saturday lashed together fallen trees in front of Shaw's modernist bell tower, blew the roof off the student center and rendered two of the four dormitories uninhabitable.
Nearly every building on campus suffered roof damage, university officials said. Even the galvanized copper roof was peeled off of Shaw's Estey Hall office building.

Message from President McClaurin:
A Prayer for Hope in the Face of Disaster
Dear Shaw Students and Parents,
Thank you for your courage in the face of one of Shaw University's most unpredictable disasters. I know that we will come through this crisis stronger and more self-assured than ever, as long as we work together as a community. I think we are blessed that despite tremendous structural damages to dormitories and the Willie Gary Student Union that not one single person (student, faculty, staff or community members) was injured. We can all give thanks for that.
