Now that you have chosen to join Shaw University you probably have lots of questions! This New Student Checklist will help you start on the path to success as a new member of our EPIC Shaw U family.

First Steps for Every Student

Checklist Steps
1. Confirm enrollment

Within two weeks of receiving your acceptance letter from the Office of Admissions, click to confirm your enrollment.

2. Provide Admissions with your final official transcript(s)

Before you can register your classes you must submit all official transcripts.

  • First-time freshmen should ensure final official high school transcripts are submitted to the Office of Admissions
  • If you have attended another institution of higher learning ensure that each institution has submitted your official transcript to the Office of Admissions.

4. Register to attend an orientation session

New students attending Shaw University are required to attend orientation and pay the non-refundable $200 enrollment deposit.

  • Friday, June 15, 2018
  • Friday, June 22, 2018
  • Friday, July 13, 2018
  • Friday, July 20, 2018
  • Friday, August 10, 2018
  • Saturday, August 11, 2018 (For CAPE and Graduate Students Only)

Steps After Enrollment Deposit is Paid:

1. Complete your housing application

Freshmen and sophomore students are required to reside in campus housing. Click to complete your housing reservation form online. Submit the non-refundable enrollment deposit ($200). Payment may be made by credit card via phone by calling the Cashier's Office at 919-546-8655 or 919-546-8678.

2. Apply for scholarships and financial aid

If you wish to receive financial aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Shaw University's school code is 002962.

3. Confirm your health insurance coverage

Full-time students are required to have health insurance as a condition of enrollment. All full-time students will be enrolled in the Student Accident & Sickness Plan which provides comprehensive benefits for office visits, diagnostic services, prescriptions and hospitalization coverage to a limit of $500,000. This plan provides the new Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA) limits for student insurance. The annual premium for this plan is $1,640, a cost of $820 per semester. If you are currently covered through another insurance policy, please read the insurance waiver request notice then complete the insurance waiver.

4. Submit your medical health form and immunization records

As a new Shaw University student, you are required to submit an up-to-date medical history form signed by a physician. Click here to download and print the medical history form. Along with your completed medical history form, you must submit an up-to-date immunization record.
