(Raleigh, NC) - Students, family and friends of Shaw University have joined the "hardest-working man in morning radio," Tom Joyner, as the Tom Joyner Foundation celebrates Shaw University as their school of the month throughout the month of March.

Shaw University's Interim President Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy said, "We are delighted about this partnership with the Tom Joyner Foundation. Mr. Joyner's support of HBCU's in a time such as this is a breath of fresh air. Through Mr. Joiner's efforts and all those who believe in what he is doing, the Tom Joyner Foundation is making a difference in education throughout our nation."
Shaw University will receive funds raised from listeners, alumni and other interested parties during the month of March. Airing in 115 markets around the country, and reaching nearly eight million listeners every week, the Tom Joyner Morning Show will promote the university and award much needed scholarships to deserving students.
Dr. Lee Monroe, who serves as vice president for Institutional Advancement at Shaw University said, "Our academic schools, administrative departments, and alumni chapters have accepted the challenge to raise funds." We are encouraging everyone to join us by visiting www.shawu.edu and go to "GIVE TO SHAW".

Formed by the nationally syndicated radio personality Tom Joyner, the Tom Joyner Foundation has been a major driving force in raising money for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) since 1998. Joyner said the university was selected as part of the foundation's ongoing effort to assist HBCUs in broadening and strengthening their efforts to raise money to help keep students attending historically black colleges and universities.

Shaw University was founded in 1865 and is the oldest historically black university in the south. Shaw University is a private, co-educational liberal arts University that awards degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The primary mission of Shaw University is teaching with the commitment to maintain excellence in research and academic programs that foster intellectual enhancement and technological skills.
