Institutional Advancement Staff Earns NYU Certificate
August 7, 2013 - Evelyn P. Leathers, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Seddrick T. Hill, Director of Alumni Relations and Planned Giving, recently completed New York University's Certificate in Fundraising at the NYU George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising.
The Certificate in Fundraising is designed for those in fundraising, marketing, finance, nonprofit management and other fields who are looking to gain a greater understanding of the fundraising profession and complement their class work with their experience in the field. Courses in the certificate program include:
- Concepts and Practices in Fundraising
- The Art of the Ask
- Online and Mobile Fundraising
- Planned Giving
- Annual Appeal
- Analyzing and Understanding Nonprofit Financial Statements
- Ethics & Law
Many of the courses in the program were taught by Naomi Levine, a heralded university fundraiser. Levine is currently the Special Advisor to the President of New York University and Chair and Executive Director of the George H. Heyman, Jr. Center. For 22 years, Naomi Levine was Senior Vice President for External Affairs at NYU. In this capacity, Levine was responsible for development and fundraising; press and public relations; alumni relations; and all special events relating to and involving alumni, trustees and donors. During her tenure, New York University transitioned from a commuter school at the brink of bankruptcy in the late 1970s to successfully completing its first billion dollar campaign in the late 1990s, raising $2.5 billion.
