Shaw University and Saint Augustine’s College
Kick-Off the Southeast City Classic
Classic Events to Benefit the United Negro College Fund
(Raleigh, NC) - Shaw University and Saint Augustine’s College will host a series of local events as part of the first annual Southeast City Classic. The Classic begins today at 5:00p.m. with a mixer at the Shaw University Alumni House and includes a walk-a-thon, party and football game on Saturday, November 6, between the two rivals. Proceeds from the mixer, walk-a-thon and party will benefit the United Negro College Fund.
The walk-a-thon begins on Saturday at 8:00a.m. at the Saint Augustine’s Prezell Robinson Library located at 1315 Oakwood Avenue. Speakers at the event include Shaw President Dr. Irma McClaurin, Saint Augustine’s President Dr. Dianne Boardley Suber and Raleigh City Councilor Mr. Eugene Weeks. The media coverage of the walk-a-thon is invited. Participants will walk a three mile route through Southeast Raleigh.
The football game between the Saint Augustine’s Falcons and Shaw Bears kicks off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, at Broughton High School, located at 723 Saint Mary’s Street. The teams will play for first place in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). For more information regarding the Southeast City Classic, please visit www.shawu.edu.
