February 14, 2011 (Raleigh, NC) – Xerox has given a Shaw a $10,000 grant for the current academic year to be split between scholarship and retention programs, and educational enrichment efforts.

As quoted in the award letter, “the Xerox Foundation, Joe Calahan and Evelyn Shockley, places a large emphasis on the growth in university-based Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) scholarship and retention initiatives.”

The grant will be broken into a $7,000 allocation for scholarship and retention efforts, and $3,000 for enrichment funding.




Shaw University was founded in 1865 and is the oldest historically black university in the south. Shaw University is a private, co-educational, liberal arts University that awards degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The primary mission of Shaw University is teaching with the commitment to maintain excellence in research and academic programs that foster intellectual enhancement and technological skills.
