Shaw Senior Performs at the Grand Ole Opry
January 20, 2012 – Tyree’ V. Smith, a Senior Recreational Therapy Major, has been chosen to represent Shaw University in the “105 VOH” HBCU National Choir for the Grand Ole Opry House HBCU Inaugural performance in Nashville, on January 22, 2012. The “105 Voices of History" is a national collegiate choir representing every HBCU in the nation. This invitation to participate in the Grand Ole Opry performance has been extended to singers from the “105 VOH” choirs who have exhibited outstanding musicianship, excellent preparation of the concert literature, leadership and who maintained a good rehearsal attendance.
Smith represented Shaw University in the 3rd Annual HBCU Kennedy Center Concert at John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC on September 19, 2010 and in the “One Voice” 105 VOH musical gala as part of the 2011 Leadership Academy-Vocal and International Development (LAVID) in Nassau, Bahamas. Because of Smith’s high ratings in his audition, he has been invited to sing in the Grand Ole Opry performance. In recognition of his acceptance and preparation, he will be provided travel, lodging, meals, the performance materials, and an opportunity to visit “Music City of America.” He will also be featured on the Grand Ole Opry stage with Grammy Award winner Shirley Caesar and Music legend Wynonna Judd.
