Durham UNCF Hosts Event to Benefit Shaw Students
March 8, 2012 – The Durham Steering Committee for the United Negro College Fund presents its annual Evening of Giving & Silent Auction on Friday, March 9th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at Saint Joseph AME Church at 2521 Fayetteville Street. The Honorary Chair for this event, Mayor William V. Bell will bring remarks and greet donors and special guests. The evening also includes light refreshments and great entertainment from Broadway performing artist, Claire Bathe Williams; gospel recording artist, Jennifer Evans, the Shaw University Choir, and organist Matthew Foster. A silent auction featuring unique and one of a kind items will be open for bids with all proceeds benefiting UNCF.
“UNCF has a long and rich history of giving young people the opportunity to fulfill their dream of attending and graduating from college, and we are proud to support their efforts through this fundraising event, “said Richard Kelsey, Chair of the Durham UNCF Steering Committee. The Committee meets throughout the year to plan and hold events to educate the community about UNCF and raise scholarship monies for students at Shaw University in Raleigh, a UNCF member institution.
This event is free and open to the public. Contributions can be mailed anytime between now and March 15th to the Durham UNCF Steering Committee, P.O. Box 25238, Durham, NC 27702, with checks made payable to UNCF.
