Arroyo and Holliday Representing USA in
June 7, 2012 – Two members of the Lady Bears softball
team have been chosen to represent the USA in the Curacao Friendship Series.
Jolene Arroyo and Chelsea Holliday have been selected for this honor through
outstanding play and exceptional work ethic. Athletes were chosen from around
the country and only a handful made the cut.
USA Athletes International in
conjunction with Curacao Softball partnerships hand-picked Arroyo and Holliday
to participate in the Curacao Friendship series on the Caribbean island located
just above South America. USAAI selected the athletes as well as the coaches
for the USA team. Leading team USA is Coach Christie Hall of Southern Oregon
University with a squad of 14 players including the two Shaw standouts.
Jolene Arroyo is a product of Newburgh, NY,
and alumna of Mercy High School. She is known for her powerful left handed
hitting and outstanding work ethic; qualities that solidified her spot alongside
elites from across the country.
Chelsea Holliday hails from
Burlington, NJ, and is an alumna of Burlington Township High. She has been
turning heads since her high school days earning honors such as First Team
All-Conference two years in a row and offensive MVP in high school. At Shaw, she earned the Rookie of the Year as
well as Catcher of the Year honors. Her exceptional skill set makes her a
valuable asset to Team USA.
The team is competing in a
series of games and tournament until mid-June.
