Weldon Seaboard Alumni Chapter Makes Donation
April 18, 2013 - Members of the Weldon-Seaboard Alumni Chapter of Shaw University traveled to Raleigh to present $6,000 to Shaw University President Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy.
The money represents the year's fundraising efforts by the Chapter through the Annual Shaw Day held at Quankey Missionary Baptist Church, where the Rev. Joseph L. Battle is pastor, along with other events. The Chapter also contributed $1,000 for their adopt-a-student, Amber Phillips, of Garysburg.
The Weldon-Seaboard Chapter was established in 1935 in Seaboard, NC and has the distinction of being the oldest continuously active alumni chapter of Shaw University.
“We are pleased to support Shaw in financial giving, student recruitment and other volunteer efforts,” said Chapter President John R. Jones."We know the value of education and are aware of the needs of private institutions. Shaw has been there for so many (students) since 1865, and as alumni we do all we can to keep the doors of this outstanding institution open for others."
