Public Relations Department Wins Award for Alumni Magazine

June 20, 2014 - Shaw University's Public Relations Department received the "Special Merit" award this semester for the re-design of the Shaw Gazette, the University's alumni magazine. The Council For Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III presented the award during its annual "Make Waves" conference in Orlando, FL.

Shaw's public relations department competed against more than 30 universities and colleges in the district to receive the award in the "Print and Digital Publications - Magazine/Tabloid Improvement" category. The department is comprised of Odessa Hines, the University’s director of public relations and Reneé Saddler, the University's webmaster and graphic designer. Public Relations is responsible for writing, editing and designing the Shaw Gazette which is published twice a year. This is the first time in the University’s history that it has received an award from CASE.

CASE District III advances and supports educational and professional institutions in the southeastern United States by enhancing the effectiveness of the alumni relations, fund raising, communications, marketing and other advancement professionals who serve them. The District’s annual awards competition includes more than 68 categories including "best practices in fundraising," "writing for the media," and "best recruitment video."
