Student Athletes Participate in Youth Week

Shaw University Youth Week

September 3, 2013 – Shaw University opened Youth Week Tuesday morning when members of the Shaw Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) visited two classes at Ligon Middle School.  This kicked off a week of activities that includes school visits and concludes with Shaw's Youth Day football game on Saturday.

"Our athletes have a strong message to give to these young people," said Shaw Athletic Director Marcus Clarke. "This week gives us a chance to cement our ties with the local community and build relationships with schools that are our neighbors here in Southeast Raleigh."

The SAAC members will visit classes at Ligon Middle School and at Bugg Elementary, as well as take part in Bugg's morning newscast.  Their message will center on the value of education and the importance of making good life choices.

As part of a week of community engagement, the Shaw football team will lead a campus cleanup on Friday morning.

On Saturday, the week culminates with Youth Day at Shaw's football game against Charleston (WV) at 1:00 p.m. at Durham County Memorial Stadium. Tickets for children under 12 will be only $5 for the contest.
