Text Box: On May 13, 2009, a Transition Team was formed to lead the process of selecting an Interim President for Shaw University, and to ensure that the day-to-day operations of the University continue uninterrupted.
This team consists of members of the Shaw University Board of Trustees, and is led by Dr. Joseph Bell.
Since the team’s formation, a working group has met daily in order to gather information and fully gauge the current situation at Shaw.
The Team has been reviewing resumes and doing due diligence, proceeding carefully to ensure the best possible candidate is selected.
The Interim President is to be named in time to oversee the various processes required to close out the fiscal year, which ends on June 30, 2009, as well as ensure a successful start to the 2009-2010 academic year.

Text Box: The Interim President is likely to serve 12-18 months, therefore the Team is committed to making the transition to an Interim President, and then to the 14th President of Shaw University a completely seamless process.
The selection process must be conducted in a way that reflects the values and aspirations of the campus community and external constituencies, ensures that the very best candidates are engaged and rigorously evaluated, and concludes with the successful appointment of someone who can provide leadership to one of the key educational assets in the State of North Carolina.

Once an Interim President has been selected, the focus of the Shaw University Board of Trustees will turn to identifying the new president of Shaw University.   A Search Committee is being established and will include members of Shaw University’s Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. There will also be special advisors to the search committee who will assist with the overall process. The committee is led by Dr. David C. Forbes, who has served on the Board of Trustees for 24 years.

To date, the Transition Team has gathered information by meeting with administrative staff, as well as many of the deans, directors, chairs, and other identified stakeholders to ensure that the University continues to function at the highest level.
In the coming days and weeks, the Transition Team will have to make some difficult decisions to improve the economic standing of the University.
“The Transition Team has been, and will continue working closely with the administration to ensure that the day-to-day operation of this great institution continues uninterrupted,” said Dr. Bell.
