Writing Center Staff

Khalisa Rae Thompson, Director

I am a journalist, former English Professor, and published author. I have an MFA in Creative Writing and a Nonprofit Management Certificate. My passion is creative writing, literature, MLA and APA organizing, thesis writing, and generating strong content. I have been editing for 7 years and I am excited to help provide resources and skills to all students.

Abiodun Busuyi ’15

I am a graduate of Shaw University, class of 2015. My college career as an English major indicates and reveals my fervent passion for writing. I am a skilled writer who has a passion for helping others sharpen their writing ability. Although I have earned my bachelor’s degree in English, I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Information Assurance and Security from Purdue University. I have a sound knowledge of technology. I try my best to allow my appointments to have a digital, virtual, and hands-on experience. I also specialize in brainstorming and creativity. Lastly, I have great experience with showing students how to properly format their papers.

Laquell Harris

I am currently a junior at Shaw. My major is Business Administration: Management with a minor in Public Administration. I am on the track and field team. I have been with the Writing Center for a year.

Christine Harris

I’m a political science major and I longboard. I’m on the Model United Nations team, and I love cats. I am a very skilled writer; I can help you with any humanities class.

Maegan Mercer-Bourne

I have an undergrad degree in Musical Theatre and a Masters in Multicultural Literature. My specialties in tutoring are creative writing, literature, MLA and APA format, brainstorming, and word choice, but I have been a consultant for over 8 years and have experience in all areas, so don't hesitate to ask me anything. I love writing and words, so I hope I can inspire that love in you!

Charlene Lovett

Charlene Lovett is an experienced teacher and tutor who has cared about education for a long time. Her best tutorial skills include patience, kindness, and understanding, and she is always willing to listen. Outside of work, she loves her family, and enjoys teaching dance classes on the side for fun!
