During the summer session 2009, Shaw will offer online courses (web-based) in numerous disciplines for both undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at Shaw University. These online courses will:

  • be taught entirely over the Internet, so you can complete all work from a remote location, provided you have the necessary computer hardware and software and a reliable Internet connection.

  • offer the same number of credit hours as courses taught on campus (typically four hours).

  • be delivered via Blackboard course management software. Faculty can ‘converse’ with students individually or in groups, post lecture notes, give assignments, and administer quizzes and tests from within their Blackboard sites.

  • an on-campus (face-to-face) final exam is required unless student could find a proctor which must be approved by the instructor. Student is responsible for proctor fee (if any).

Important Notes for Students:

  • Office of Instructional Technology will notify students of upcoming Blackboard training sessions via email during week of April 20, 2009.

  • Students with a CGPA of less than 2.00 must  go to the Academic Success Center (Dr. Cynthia Graham) before proceeding to register for Summer School Online Courses
  •  All courses taken at other accredited institutions during the summer session must have prior approval from the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. When you take a course at another institution, only the credit hours are transferable to Shaw University. This means that your GPA remains the same although you may obtain more credit hours towards graduation. You must also make sure that the institution attended forwards the credit hours to the Registrar’s Office at Shaw University.

  • Remember also that the Cooperating Raleigh Colleges (CRC) program does not operate during the summer. Shaw University students who take courses at a CRC institution must pay for those courses. Shaw University will not pay for such courses during the summer.
