Shaw University to Host a 10-City Virtual Information Session

Raleigh, NC – (June 30, 2004) – Shaw University invites residents, parents, potential and confirmed students to a virtual information session, entitled Shaw University - A Serious Upgrade on Saturday, July 10th from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., in Leonard Hall in Raleigh; and at all of its remote Centers for Alternative Programs in Education (CAPE). These campuses are located in Ahoskie, Asheville, Durham, Fayetteville, Greenville, High Point, Kannapolis, Rocky Mount/Wilson and Wilmington using its videoconferencing capabilities via voiceover IP technology. This event is free and open to the public. 

Residents who live in or near one of the above listed cities are invited to visit the CAPE site in closest proximity to interact with directors and leaders from the office of admissions, financial aid, the registrar, academic affairs, the bursar, student affairs, freshmen year and religious life without leaving their respective locales. There will also be a question and answer segment for participants.

Shaw University Director of Alumni Relations & Planned Giving, Reekitta Grimes says, “…this is an opportunity for Shaw…to present…the technological opportunities that we have available…Grimes further states, “The resources that we have now will allow us to carry the classroom to our students regardless of their location…”

Topics to be discussed are:
• Admissions requirements for prospective and newly admitted students.
• Reviewing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), processing timeline, and grant and scholarship opportunities.
• Registering for classes traditionally and on the Internet.
• Discussing undergraduate and graduate degree majors.
• Understanding the components of a University bill and the payment process.
• Student housing procedures, student events and activities.
• Entering student expectations, dress code, Cultural and Spiritual Enrichment Seminar (CASES) participation.
• Religious Life
