Advisor Block
All degree-seeking Shaw University students are required to meet
with their advisor prior to registering for classes. When students
meet with their advisor, the advisor will remove the advising block
from the student's account. If this block is not removed, students
will not be able to register. If student are unsure of who their
advisor are, the students should contact the department chairperson
in their major area of study.
Audit
Any course that is registered for as “audit” will be
subject to the same fees and regulations of the University. Regular
attendance is expected, but tests and examinations are not required.
No grade will be recorded, except that an instructor may assign
a grade of “W” to a student who misses an appreciable
portion of the classes. For further restrictions on audited courses,
see the “Audit” section of the 1998-2002 University
Catalog.
Closed Class
Each class has a maximum number of students that can register (enrollment
cap). When this cap is reached the class closes and no further enrollment
is allowed. Students may either attempt to register for a different
section or an alternate course, or may contact the professor of
the closed class and ask for an override. If students receive an
override, they must bring the Registration Transaction Form to the
Office of the University Registrar.
Co-Requisite
If a class has a co-requisite, the student is encouraged to take
both classes simultaneously. For more information on co-requisite
courses, see their advisor.
Pre-Requisite
Some courses have a pre-requisite requirement, meaning that the
lower level course must be taken before students can move on to
higher level courses. Students will not be permitted to register
for these courses if they have not fulfilled the pre-requisite.
For more information on pre-requisite courses, see your advisor.
Student Identification Number
Usually your Student Identification Number is your Social Security
Number.
The Student Information System used by the University assigns every
student an identification number. This ID number is also placed
on your University Identification Card. Safe guard both your Social
Security Number and your computer generated ID number.
Time Conflicts
In the schedule of classes is a planning grid for students' use
in developing their schedule. Use the grid to avoid scheduling classes
that meet at the same time.
Academic Advising
All degree status undergraduate students are required to have a
faculty advisor approve their courses of study prior to each registration.
Contacting Advisors: If you are a student
without a declared major, an advising appointment must be made in
the Academic Assessment and Achievement Center (AAA), 546-8335.
If you are a degree seeking undergraduate with a declared major,
contact the department chairperson of your major for advising.
