Computer Information Systems and Computer Sciences
The Computer Information Systems and Computer Science (CIS/CS) programs provide students with the technological expertise they will need to excel in today’s digital world. The programs prepare students for success in a diverse range of fields including information technology, business, medicine, banking, and biotechnology among a few. Many of the fastest growing and best-paying jobs are directly related to computers and software. The program strives to create graduates who will be competitive and successful in these fast-growing careers.
The mission of the programs is to excel in the fields of research and education. Through the pursuit of a rigorous research program, the program strives to produce graduates who are well prepared for careers or advanced education in computer science or computer information systems.
The programs also provide introductory computer training to all students. The ever-increasing presence of technology in nearly all aspects of society has meant that basic computer skills are a necessary component to success in college and in life. The program seeks to provide these necessary skills to all students.
The Shaw University Innovation Lab funded by the National Science Foundation offers students hands-on access to the latest technology including industrial robots, virtual reality, drones, 3D printing electronics and more. See Photos
