About the Honors College:

In the midst of senior year pandemonium, while all my classmates were frantically searching for an institution of higher learning; my mind was made up. Shaw University and the Honors College are responsible for the molding of the determination and perseverance I have today. At the age of 23, I am a candidate for the Master of Public Health degree, with a concentration in epidemiology at Georgia Southern University.  Upon graduation, I plan to obtain my PhD in microbiology and correlate the infectious microorganisms responsible for the predisposition of morbidities and mortalities within populations.  The Honors College gave me the push I needed to succeed through my undergraduate tenure.  The program enabled me to build greater networking skills and fostered my public service involvement in the community.  When other institutions turned their backs on me, because I couldn’t afford tuition, Shaw University and the Honors College accepted me.  The skills I learned while at Shaw University have contributed to my determination and drive.  Dr. Leathers and her amazing support through all of my academic endeavors, has always motivated me to ascend far above the status quo.  The Honors College taught me never to equal, but always excel; and for that I am forever grateful.
