NC GS 15-12 - Unclaimed Property
Pursuant to North Carolina General Statue 15-12, any unclaimed property which has been in the custody of a law enforcement agency for a period of 180 days after seizure, confiscation, or receipt, shall be advertised publicly. Items which remain unclaimed
after 30 days from the first day of advertisement shall be destroyed, sold, or donated to a charitable organization exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Any items seized during a criminal investigation shall be disposed of
pursuant to court disposition or a court order filed with the courts of Wake County. General description of articles to be claimed include, clothing and accessories, various keys, school supplies items, jewelry, and electronic devices and chargers.
