Did You Know?
In 1968, WSHA was the first radio station to be owned by a black college. Shaw University, the oldest historically black college in the South, continues to own and operate WSHA.
For nearly 50 years, WSHA 88.9FM has served the community like no other with innovative programming and the best in Jazz, Blues, Funk, Reggae, Latin, African and Gospel. You can count on WSHA every single day for handcrafted playlists, programs that inform and enlighten and music that brings calm, energy or entertainment to your day.
In 2016, WSHA 88.9 FM expanded service in Rocky Mount and Fayetteville, NC. Listeners can now tune in on 102.1 FM in Rocky Mount and 102.3.FM in Fayetteville.
Mission Statement
The mission of WSHA is to serve the Triangle community and the world, across continents, as no other station does with information, cultural, educational and global programming. WSHA is committed to providing an opportunity for community volunteers and students to acquire extensive professional training and experience in the radio industry. WSHA is also committed to Shaw University’s mission, as the platform for community outreach engagement to advance knowledge through broadcast services and community partnerships.

WSHA respects the privacy of our listeners and donors. WSHA collects personal identification information for our Membership Data ONLY if the listener decides and chooses to enroll. All information collected is secure and used for internal purposes only. WSHA does not share, rent, sell or exchange any data about its donors, listeners, guests and general membership with any third party.
