Paul Baker, Ph.D., Archivist
Paul Baker, Ph.D. received the BA from UNC-Chapel Hill in Art/African American Studies, MA from NC State University in Public History and the Ph.D. from NC A&T State University in Leadership Studies with a focus on managing cultural institutions and museums.  He holds the certification in archival management from the Modern Archives Institute and was a Gilder-Lehrman Fellow at Yale University. Paul enjoys reading and college basketball.

Alexi Sprague, Library Assistant
Alexi Sprague earned a bachelor’s degree in English, Writing with minors in Anthropology and Theatre Arts. She has a passion for the arts, humanities, and libraries, which has led her to a wide-ranging professional career in a variety of roles in education and libraries..

Samantha Thorne, Metadata Librarian
As the Metadata Librarian, Samantha Thorne is responsible for organizing library resources and ensuring users can easily find and access the information they need. She has previous experience in public and community college libraries, and university library special collections departments. In addition to information organization, her professional interests include user experience design and linked data. She holds a Masters in Library and Information Science from Kent State University and a BA in Art History from Brigham Young University.

Larry Treadwell, Director of Library Services
Larry Treadwell joined Shaw University in July 2019 with 20 years of academic experience. During his academic journey, he has accumulated a wealth of experience with policy, compliance, student retention, advising, and student services. He holds degrees in education, library science, and sports administration. He has a passion for libraries, lifelong learning, and student success. For Larry, academia is fun because there is always an opportunity to learn something new and to find new experiences. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and two dogs, gardening, cooking or working on his latest woodworking project.

Velma Williams, Library Specialist
Velma Williams joined the Shaw University library system in 2007. Her contributions to the Library have been varied and rewarding. She has performed a variety of duties including, record-keeping, statistical data collection, cataloging shelf maintenance, and student worker supervision. She also developed and coordinated a library story hour in conjunction with the Center for Early Childhood Education and Research. Some of her proudest moments have been sharing Shaw’s historical contribution at the North Carolina Museum of History, the Greensboro Civil Rights Exhibit, and the Olivia Raney Local History Library. Her prior educational experience includes 22 years of elementary teaching experience in Virginia and North Carolina school systems. She has a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Virginia State University and Library Science graduate course work from Longwood University.
