Shaw University senior Tamara Wood lands spring Partnership Raleigh internship

RALEIGH — More hands-on learning for Shaw University sociology major Tamara Wood.

Her spring internship with Partnership Raleigh’s Pathways to Public Service program is delivering experience toward becoming an attorney. The program is a public-private partnership between the city of Raleigh and the local business community. Wood, whose degree concentration is criminal justice, did a summer internship in environmental policy with the North Carolina Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Partnership Raleigh’s paid internships provide workforce-development experience in a professional setting in city departments with hard-to-fill staff vacancies. It means Wood’s participation helps the city address employee recruitment and retention. Raleigh’s police, fire, information technology, human resources and public utilities departments are areas of focus.

Wood graduates in May.

“The capstone project component of this fellowship will also greatly prepare me to engage in in-depth policy analysis, another good skill to have as a future lawyer,” Wood said.
