RALEIGH — The Rev. Quientrell L. Burrell Jr., D.Min., pastors New Hope Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he is affiliated with numerous civic organizations. A coveted preacher, teacher and lecturer, Burrell and New Hope Nation are partners in global evangelism and missions with World Vision Global Inc.

The baccalaureate service starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Thomas J. Boyd Chapel.

Burrell, reared in Hempstead, New York, graduated from Long Island University Post with a bachelor’s degree in communications and broadcasting. In 2007, he earned a master’s degree from Shaw University Divinity School. He did his doctorate work at Chicago Theological Seminary.

In March 1998, Burrell preached his initial sermon at Antioch Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina. He was licensed shortly thereafter to the gospel ministry at Antioch, pastored at that time by Bishop Phillip E. Elliott.

Burrell was called to pastor First Baptist Church of Weldon, North Carolina, in November 2001. He faithfully led the congregation for 17 years. During that time, Burrell also worked as chief executive officer of First Community Development Corp. and was an adjunct professor of religion at Halifax Community College.

In April 2012, Burrell was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers and Scholars of Morehouse College in Atlanta.

Burrell was installed at New Hope in 2019.

For a number of years, Burrell was both on the planning board of and music director for the Shaw University Divinity School Alexander-Pegues Minister’s Conference. He was a fellow in the Resilience in Leadership Initiative of Chicago Theological Seminary.

Burrell is a member of the National Baptist Convention USA Inc., in which he is lead organist, music coordinator and a member of the music and worship-arts staff. He is on the convention’s evangelism board and serves as its southeast regional director. Burrell was an organizing officer for the youth and young adult ushers for the convention.

Chairman of the evangelism commission for the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina Inc., Burrell is immediate past chairman of its late-night worship, a general board member and an organist for the organization.

Burrell is a member of the United Missionary Baptist Association of Charlotte, serving as evangelism chairman and Christian education instructor. He is a member of the Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors, under the leadership of Bishop Walter Scott Thomas. Burrell serves as an executive board member and general secretary of the Concerned Clergy of Charlotte Inc.

A native North Carolinian, Burrell is the eldest of two sons born to Brenda D. Burrell and the late Quientrell L. Burrell Sr.
