Shaw University Names Dr. Jillian Jackson Dean of Students

Shaw University has appointed Dr. Jillian Jackson as its new dean of students.

A dedicated higher education leader, Jackson brings extensive experience in student affairs, academic affairs, instructional leadership and student success. Throughout her career, she has led initiatives that strengthen student engagement, improve retention and graduation rates, and support the holistic development of students.

Jackson earned a Doctor of Education in educational leadership with a concentration in higher education from Fayetteville State University, a Master of Science in school administration from Appalachian State University and a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

She previously served at Shaw University as director of digital teaching and learning and an OAS instructor. Her professional experience also includes leadership roles with the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning and the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, where she developed expertise in student engagement, residence life, leadership development, technology integration and institutional effectiveness.

As dean of students, Jackson will oversee student life, including residence life, student leadership, student organizations, campus engagement, student conduct and initiatives that promote student well-being and success. She is committed to fostering a supportive campus environment where every Shaw Bear is empowered to thrive academically, personally and professionally while advancing the university’s tradition of excellence, service and leadership.
