Dennis Williams, Jr. (MA ’25) – Answering the Call to Lead

For Dennis Williams, Jr., pursuing a Master of Arts in Christian Leadership at Shaw University is more than an academic endeavor–it’s a divine calling. With a vision to become a pastor and earn a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) degree, he is committed to deepening his theological knowledge and making a lasting impact. “In the next five to ten years, I plan on becoming a pastor if God allows me,” he said.

His journey in ministry is deeply personal, shaped by faith, mentorship, and perseverance. He credits his brother, Dr. James A. Plenty, as a steadfast source of encouragement. “Whenever I expressed self-doubt, he encouraged me with his unwavering faith in my abilities, reminding me that I can achieve anything I set my mind to,” Williams shared.

Driven by a desire to guide others in their spiritual journeys, he reflects, “I wanted to explore the reasons behind my worship more thoroughly, aiming to grasp the teachings of Jesus.” With a heart for service, he envisions empowering others in their faith and fostering a strong, supportive community.

To future students, his advice is simple but powerful: “Keep your head up and stay the course, even when challenges arise.” He leans on the scripture, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” as a reminder of resilience and faith.
