From Shaw University to the Sidelines of the NFL

Isaiah Richardson, set to graduate from Shaw University in May 2025 with a degree in mass communications, was recently selected for the prestigious NFL Technical Operations Training Camp in Inglewood, California. He will work alongside producers and directors to support NFL broadcast operations there.

“This opportunity will allow me to gain real-world experience working with producers and directors on NFL content, while learning even more about my field,” he said. “I’m super excited to be in a new area and meet new people throughout this program.”

Isaiah’s path to mass communications wasn’t a straight one, but it was purpose-driven.

“Honestly, I didn’t realize how much mass communications had to offer until I got my first internship with ESPN,” he said.

That experience opened his eyes to the field’s depth and versatility—from journalism and public speaking to live production and technical direction. What began as a backup plan became a career-defining moment.

Grounded in faith and fueled by discipline, Isaiah draws inspiration from both God and the late Kobe Bryant.

“His mentality to work hard has enough impact on me alone to separate myself from the crowd,” he said. “If I want extraordinary results, I have to put in extraordinary work.”

To students just beginning their journeys, Isaiah offers this advice: “Trust the process, keep God first, and work your tail off every day. Don’t try to fit in—have tunnel vision and chase your goal.”
