Intersection of education, critical thinking, democracy front and center

RALEIGH — Shaw University adjunct professor Daniel Homick, J.D., will provide remarks before “Democracy at Risk: Can Understanding Our Past Protect Our Future?”, a March 19 webinar featuring national thought leaders on law and democracy.

The webinar will explore the role of education and critical thinking in safeguarding democracy. William C. Hubbard, both the dean of and a professor of law at the University of South Carolina School of Law, will moderate a panel including Los Angeles Times columnist Nicholas Goldberg, political scientist Margaret Levi and constitutional scholar Tom Ginsburg.

Homick, who teaches modern Russian history at Shaw University, will begin his remarks at 10:45 a.m. in the Dorothy Cowser Yancy Building, Room 126. Afterward, he’ll facilitate a discussion there among Shaw University students, staff and faculty. Omar (Brad) Bartos, J.D., who recently served with the U.S. Department of State as an international election observer in Ukraine, will join the discussion.

Shaw University is the only school hosting a discussion group related to the webinar.
