Homecoming is an exciting and cherished tradition at Shaw University, bringing together students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends. The Shaw University Campus Police Department is committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable celebration for all. To that end, we ask that you take note of the following essential information.

You should expect road closures around the University and throughout campus. With an increased number of patrons moving about both on campus and along adjacent streets, we ask that everyone exercise patience and caution. You will also notice an increased security and police presence during Homecoming, including security checks at all official University events. Your cooperation with officers and staff is greatly appreciated.

Safety Tips to Keep in Mind:

• Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.
• If consuming alcohol, do so responsibly; the legal drinking age in North Carolina is 21.
• Walk in groups, remain in well-lit areas, and use the buddy system.
• Keep your phone charged, carry emergency contacts, and be prepared to call for help.
• Limit the amount of cash you carry and avoid games like “3-card monte.”
• Park your vehicles only in designated areas, follow parking regulations, and secure valuables out of sight.
• Stay alert, report suspicious activity, and avoid unsanctioned events that lack proper security.

Additionally, the entire Shaw University campus, including all buildings, will be closed to visitors.

• Thursday: Closes at 9:30 p.m.
• Friday: Closes at 9:30 p.m.
• Saturday: Closes at 6:00 p.m.

Only student residents will be permitted on campus during the closure periods.
