A Message from the Office of the President

Dear ShawU community,

We are aware that the Save Our Shaw Coalition has filed a complaint with the North Carolina Department of Justice’s Office concerning Shaw University. We recognize that this news may raise questions and concerns among our alumni.

The complaint raises concerns about University governance, the stewardship of charitable assets and institutional funds, and the campus Master Plan. The North Carolina Department of Justice has requested materials related to the Master Plan, and the University is coordinating its response.

Our community’s connection to ShawU is deeply personal and deserves clear, accurate information about the institution and we take the concerns raised by members of our alumni and community at large seriously.

Our responsibility is to support our students, steward the University’s resources, and sustain ShawU’s educational mission. That responsibility includes listening to concerns and addressing them with care and accountability.

We recognize that ShawU’s alumni community holds a range of perspectives and that the concerns expressed by the Save Our Shaw Coalition do not reflect the views of every alumnus. We value hearing from all alumni as we work toward a strong future for ShawU.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paulette R. Dillard
President and CEO
