Shaw University Names Dr. Johnny Bernard Hill Senior Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships

RALEIGH, N.C. — Shaw University has named Dr. Johnny Bernard Hill Senior Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships. An experienced higher education leader and fundraiser, Hill brings extensive experience in advancement, corporate and foundation engagement, and strategic partnerships. 

Hill returns to Shaw University, where he previously served as dean of the Shaw University Divinity School. During his tenure, he helped secure more than $2 million in investments from Lilly Endowment Inc., increased enrollment by more than 30% and established the Divinity School’s Office of Development. Most recently, he served as a visiting professor in theology at Duke University Divinity School. 

A U.S. Army veteran, Hill earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Sociology from Morehouse College, a Master of Divinity and Master of Theology from Duke University Divinity School, and a doctorate in philosophical theology from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University. 

As Senior Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships, Hill will focus on strengthening philanthropic support, expanding corporate and foundation relationships, and developing partnerships that advance Shaw University’s priorities.
