Alumnus Melvin E. Clark Sr. remembered for community leadership, outreach

Shaw University mourns the passing of alumnus Bishop Melvin E. Clark Sr. His homegoing service was Jan. 31, and there was a national service Feb. 1, both at the Church in the Round Church of God in Christ in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.

Alumnus Clark died Jan. 20. He was 92.

A 1951 graduate of Shaw University and an emeritus member of its board of trustees, Alumnus Clark is remembered as a pastor, church-planner and community leader. In 1986, he was appointed to the bishopric and jurisdictional prelate of the Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Pennsylvania.

Known for his outreach ministries, Alumnus Clark was fondly regarded as the Bless Your Bones Preacher and Mr. Pentecost.

Alumnus Clark is enshrined in the Shaw University Hall of Distinction.
