Cleon F. Thompson remembered as a towering figure in higher ed

RALEIGH — Shaw University mourns the passing of former administrator Cleon F. Thompson, Ph.D. He was 92 and will be laid to rest Feb. 2 at Raleigh Memorial Park after his funeral at Baptist Grove Church. More details are here.

Known as a transformative leader in higher education, Dr. Thompson was chancellor at Winston-Salem State University. He was interim chancellor at North Carolina A&T State University.

At Shaw University, Dr. Thompson was a biology professor before lending his leadership in administrative roles including interim vice president for institutional advancement.
